Benefits of niche writing

While there are benefits of both writing markets, there are some distinct benefits of deciding to be a niche writer. Assuming that a freelance writer has expertise in a specific market here are some of the benefits:

Less research
- Most freelance writers find that a good portion of their time is spent doing research. This often means that they could spend an hour or more researching an article that takes them less than an hour to write. Niche writing allows a freelance writer to focus their energy on writing and not on researching;
Establishing expertise - Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of niche writing is establishing expertise. This allows freelance writers to have credibility not only with articles that they write, but also helps them when they are creating a blog. For example, if readers constantly see a writer producing high quality content that focuses on work at home, they are likely to follow the blog that the writer publishes. This means that the writer has established their credibility;

Networking benefits - Most freelance writers (especially writers of online content) depend on networking to get information about their work spread around. For those who focus on a single market, the networking opportunities include groups on Facebook, LinkedIn groups and even groups on Twitter. This type of networking can also lead to guest blogging opportunities that might come along unexpectedly and allow the writer even greater visibility.

Portfolio benefits - For those freelance writers who focus in on a specific subject matter, they can create an extremely good writing portfolio and use this to market their skills to specific business interests. This may lead to higher paying jobs for those freelance writers who are seeking clients (rather than writing online all of the time).
