Japan, a progressive country was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake last March, 2011 and minutes later a tsunami devastated the eastern part of the country destroying millions of households. New Zealand was also been recently hit by an earthquake (magnitude 6.3) last February, 2011. The overflowing of the Mississippi River and the Tornado incident in Missouri wherein both lives and properties were lost. These were just few of the wrath's brought upon by nature to us. Even how developed a certain country is, still it doesn't have an edge over natural calamities.
If the above-mentioned countries were not spared even if their disaster preparedness programs are very well planned and established, what will happen to a certain country like the Philippines? Natural Disasters is not a new thing to the Philippines in fact it is one of the countries that is situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire plus it's prone to typhoons because it surrounded by oceans. But how serious is the government in this particular issue? I have been living in this beautiful country for almost 26 years now and from that span of time I can say that I have tasted a better result in the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III. When a Weather Bureau Chief miscalculated the arrival of a typhoon in the country resulting to lives and properties that were sacrificed, he immediately replaced the bureau chief for he was very disappointed and dissatisfied with it's performance. The President as I can perceive implemented an aggressive program that will not only monitor his cabinet members performance but also the safety of the people in the country. The disaster preparedness program had greatly improved during his term of office because before certain agencies of the government perform less as to what is being expected of them. The safety process was compromised. But now all officials are functioning well because maybe they are afraid to lose their job, just like what happened to the PAG-ASA Weather Bureau Chief (my opinion only). As of this time, the evacuation process and early precautionary measures to certain areas of the country improved as well. They are preparing ahead of time so that no more lives will be lost and no more properties will be destroyed. Let's just see if these improvement would still be as effective as what I had perceived now.
