Groom Your Pet Healthy

Proper grooming helps prevent hair balls in your cats, reduces allergen levels in your home and keeps your pets from developing painful, matted hair. Shelling out money every few months for a visit to the professional groomer can get expensive. Instead, invest in a few tools and groom your cat or dog yourself.
Here are the basics.

•Bathe Right: Cats are fastidious groomers that rarely need to be bathed – but it’s necessary for dogs. Once in every 2 months should suffice, but if your pup has naturally grease skin or loves a good roll in the dirt, he may need it more often. With your dog in the tub, point the shower head away from him first before gently moving it to his fur; it’s a good idea to reward him with treats during your cleaning. Pet shampoos are specially formulated for dog’s pH level and skin type. Use adjustable shower heads; it can make it easier to rinse those hard-to-reach spots and more importantly, it’ll save your back in the process!

•Clean Ears Well: Wax build-up can cause your pet’s ears to itch and hurt; and in severe cases, may lead to inner and middle ear infections. Clean his ears after bathing; any more often can destroy the ‘good’ bacteria in them, resulting in a yeast infection. Use a gauze pad or a tissue to gently remove wax from his outer ears. Do not stick anything deep into the ear canal.

•Groom Often: Dogs that have fast-growing, curly hair, such as standard poodles and bichons frises, need a trim every 3 to 4 months. Most other pets shed their coats, so they don’t need haircuts. But if you want to minimize shedding or neaten up your pet’s appearance – invest in safe trimming tools to avoid scissor accidents.

These are very basic tips on pet care. To keep them healthy you should regularly consult to a vet.
