Cheating is on the rise

If you’ve ever been cheated on by a partner you once trusted, you will understand that it is one of the most horrible feelings in the entire world. To go from being madly in love with someone to not being able to trust a single word that comes out of their mouth is a total opposite, something which you never imagine will happen when you first enter into a relationship with somebody.

Since the invention of the internet, and the discovery of online chat rooms, cheating has been on the rise. More people are finding it a lot easier to get in contact with people who they perhaps wouldn’t usually bother with and this can have dangerous consequences.

It is unknown as yet what it is exactly which causes this effect. Some experts believe that it is not rising, simply more people are getting found out as all activity online is traceable to the individual. This may well be the case. On social networking websites, it is too easy for innocent comments to be seen as flirting, as we cannot 100% understand what somebody means by just a string of words. In the real world, we have a lot of other cues such as eye contact and facial expression that we simply do not get over the internet.

Should we be worried? I think so. Not just about being cheated on, but also about being the one who does the cheating. You might not think that you would, but it is far too easy to enter into behaviour which may actually just be misunderstood by the person you are speaking to.
The opportunities available to us online are forever expanding, and care must be taken in order for us not to be overwhelmed by the amount of information that is being given to us at any one time.
