Shocking new figures

In the past, for most of us, HIV was something that we associated with a tiny minority of individuals and never imagined that it would affect us. Now, thanks to routine HIV tests being administered to thousands of people in Manchester, it would appear that 1 in 200 of us may have HIV; most of those being undiagnosed.

You may not realise that you have the virus, as it can be symptom free for several years after it had been contracted. If you are in any doubt you should always go for a test and have yourself checked; as there are treatments that you can undergo which will be able to prolong your life.
Getting an early diagnosis is key with the condition, as it has been shown that being supported from the very start of the virus can potentially allow an individual to live a life as long as somebody without the virus.

The most important thing to remember is that, while getting a test may seem embarrassing or painful at the time, it is not as harmful as it would be if the virus were left untreated.
