Last week I applied for a teaching position in a certain school. They were hiring teachers majoring in math and science. I took the opportunity because it's just near our place (walking distance) and I don't need to wake up so early just to prepare for work. I know I'm qualified for the job position and in fact I already submitted pertinent papers to HRD. They called me up the day after and set up an initial interview schedule with the head of the school. Luckily, I passed and they told me to go the testing department for I need to undergo certain examinations pertaining to my IQ level and my field of expertise which is math. It just took me at least 2 hours or so to finish up everything.
The next day I received a text message from them telling me to pay a visit to the school If i had the time. I went there and I'm so happy to know that I passed the 2nd stage and they arranged for a final interview, again with the owner of the school. I was thinking already that I will be hired by them for I just need to undergo this one final step. But to my surprise the question was " Are you straight or gay?" I pause for a few minutes and finally answered that I'm gay. After hearing my reply the owner said that I failed because they are not hiring people from the third gender. To save my pride I just said to her "ok, I understand".
I cannot blame her if she feels that gays are not qualified for the job position but she should specify in the classifieds that 'gays are not allowed". This is totally a discrimination to the third gender and I was actually wasting my time and effort for in the end in all boils down to gender sensitivity. I was judged for who I am and not what I can contribute to the school.
