I just started blogging last April 22, 2011 and I can say that for first timers (like me) it's really difficult to create a blogging site especially if you're not that knowledgeable on how to do it. I have been using several blogging platforms to suit my needs and I haven't stayed for one site long enough.
The very first blog that I made was hosted by WordPress.com. I was satisfied with the site which leads me into discovering WordPress.org wherein you can maximize your blogging experience and you can self host it. So in short I deleted my first blog and self hosted WordPress in a free web-host. Although WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) and a flexible one even for first timers but hosting it for free cripples it's maximum performance. I just recently learned that from a friend of mine who has been blogging for almost 7 months now. My friend told me that before I'd start blogging I should think of my goals and objectives why I chose this field. So I told him that I just want to share something to the public and gain some little revenue out of it. But what strikes me most is his reply that sharing something to the public is not a guarantee of earning, I should have the patience and the passion to blog. Well, this is one great task that I must endure to be able to blog effectively. I should not solely think of how much money I can get but how much information I can share to the readers because that whats makes it successful and I would never forget what my friend told me that I should have the "passion" and the "patience".
Aside from that, this time I've have been reading articles from other bloggers so that I can get information on matters that I still don't know. That really helps me a lot and you should try that also.
For my generalization, blogger.com from Google is the most practical platform to use for first time bloggers, just like WordPress it's so easy to use and navigate plus its free. You always use Google to find information related to your queries about the blogging site. And most of all, you can enroll in their adsense program if you want a little revenue from your blog.
