Globe Disapproves PLDT-Digitel Deal

Globe Telecom, the second largest telecommunications company in the Philippines highly disapproves on the deal which is still pending for review on the acquisition of Gokongwei-owned Digitel Telecommunications Philippines Incorporated (Digitel) by Philippines Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT).
Globe is asking for a "leveling of the playing field" because if the deal will push through, PLDT will be given a 70 percent (60 million subscribers) while Globe will only have 30 percent share (26.5 million users) of the local mobile telecommunications industry. Furthermore, Rodolfo Salima the legal counsel of Globe Telecom said that there would be no more free market competition and the country would revert to the old monopoly in the telecommunication industry.
Globe already appealed to NTC (National Telecommunications C omission) and the government stating that it undermines the foundation of Republic Act 7925 that gives liberation to telecommunications industry in the country
